Unveiled ahead of Monterey Car Week, the Lucid Gravity GT-S takes inspiration from the company’s Lucid Motors Air Sapphire performance sedan. But rather than turning the Gravity into a stripped-down performance machine, Lucid has focused on preserving the qualities that make the SUV useful every day: space, comfort, cargo capacity and seating for as many as seven adults.
The result is an unusual combination. The Gravity GT-S can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds while retaining the three-row configuration and generous interior space expected from a large luxury SUV.
1,070 horsepower and a performance-focused chassis
The centerpiece of the Gravity GT-S is its 1,070 horsepower output, making it, according to Lucid, America’s most powerful three-row SUV.
Power is only part of the equation. The GT-S comes standard with Lucid’s Dynamic Handling Package, which is designed to give the large electric SUV sharper responses without sacrificing the ride comfort expected of a luxury vehicle.
The package includes independent rear-wheel steering and an adaptive three-chamber air suspension. The suspension can also lower the vehicle at higher speeds, helping improve stability and aerodynamic efficiency.
That combination gives the Gravity GT-S a broader performance envelope than a conventional large SUV. It is capable of delivering supercar-like acceleration but remains engineered around long-distance travel, passengers and everyday utility.
A more distinctive Gravity
Lucid has also given the GT-S visual cues intended to distinguish it from other Gravity models.
Blue exterior accents and painted blue brake calipers provide subtle performance-oriented touches, while the cabin carries the theme considerably further. The Mojave PurLuxe Premium interior features blue stitching and piping on the first and second rows, along with blue seatbelts.
Additional details include blue stitching on the steering wheel, door armrests and front center armrest, as well as a blue steering-wheel marker. Lucid Bear logos are embossed into the front-seat headrests.
The approach is reminiscent of the visual language used for high-performance versions of luxury cars, where relatively restrained exterior changes are combined with more distinctive cabin detailing.
Performance without giving up practicality
The most interesting aspect of the Gravity GT-S may be what Lucid has chosen not to sacrifice.
Performance SUVs often require compromises in passenger space, ride comfort or cargo capacity. The Gravity GT-S instead retains the Gravity’s three-row layout and seating for up to seven adults.
That makes its 3.1-second acceleration figure particularly striking. An SUV capable of carrying a large family and its gear while producing more than 1,000 horsepower occupies a very different category from traditional performance cars.
Lucid is effectively positioning the GT-S as a vehicle that can serve as both a luxury family hauler and a high-performance machine, rather than asking buyers to choose between the two.
Monterey Car Week debut
The Gravity GT-S will make its global debut during Monterey Car Week, putting the new SUV in front of an audience traditionally focused on exotic cars, historic automobiles and high-end automotive design.
Lucid will display the GT-S alongside the Air Sapphire in the Concours Village at Pebble Beach. The pairing underscores the relationship between the two vehicles and Lucid’s broader effort to establish performance credentials alongside its emphasis on efficiency, technology and luxury.
The GT-S also represents another step in Lucid’s expansion of the Gravity lineup. The company is using the SUV’s underlying architecture to reach customers who want the practicality of a large three-row vehicle without abandoning the acceleration and handling capabilities increasingly associated with high-performance electric vehicles.
Pricing starts at $125,900
Lucid Gravity GT-S pricing starts at $125,900 in the United States, before taxes, title, license, options, destination and documentation fees.
A Tahoe leather interior is available for an additional $1,300, while destination and delivery add $1,850.
Orders open August 13, with the Gravity GT-S offered exclusively in the United States.
With its combination of 1,070 horsepower, three-row seating and luxury-oriented interior, the Gravity GT-S is less about creating another electric performance SUV than about challenging the traditional boundaries between a family vehicle and an exotic performance machine.
The message from Lucid is straightforward: buyers no longer necessarily have to choose between practicality and extreme performance. The Gravity GT-S is designed to deliver both in a single package.
