Toyota Redraws the Tundra’s Front End and Cabin Touchpoints
The updated design, developed by Toyota Motor North America teams, centers on a more modern front-end treatment that the company says emphasizes authenticity. Toyota describes the new design language as well balanced and sophisticated, with a wide, stable stance and a center lower bumper treatment meant to reinforce the truck’s rugged character. Inside, the cabin receives an all-new steering wheel design.
Toyota Introduces the Tundra Trailhunter Package for Factory-Built Overlanding
The most prominent addition is the Trailhunter package, which Toyota built on the SR5 grade for customers who want trail capability straight from the factory. The package adds Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, Old Man Emu upgraded suspension, front recovery hooks and additional underbody protection. It builds on hardware that includes four-wheel drive, a locking rear differential, Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select. Distinguishing details include bronze-colored wheels, exclusive exterior badging and color-selectable fog lamps.
Toyota positions the package two ways: as a ready-to-use overland truck, and as a starting point for owners who want a custom build using Toyota Genuine parts and accessories and Lifestyle products.
Toyota Equips the Tundra TRD Pro With FOX QS3 Shocks and a New Color
The TRD Pro remains the Tundra’s most off-road-focused grade, and for 2027 it receives newly designed, Tundra-tuned FOX enhanced QS3 shocks. Toyota says the adjustable units are engineered to deliver enhanced feel, stability and adjustability over rough terrain. A new available Honeycomb exterior color and standard red tow hooks provide visual emphasis, while the integrated light bar and fog lights now offer improved lumen output for low-light visibility. Available ISO-dynamic seats are intended to support driver and passenger comfort and stability during demanding off-road driving.
Toyota’s Next-Generation Audio Multimedia System Brings a Standard 14-Inch Screen
Every 2027 Tundra now has a 14-inch touchscreen running the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system, developed by Toyota Connected North America. The system integrates AT&T 5G network connectivity and offers a configurable home screen and an always-on Quick Control shortcut menu. A 12.3-inch digital meter is also standard.
The built-in Drive Recorder Dash Cam is standard as well, and Toyota describes it as the company’s first camera with playback directly on the touchscreen. Using the vehicle’s external cameras, it captures 20-second clips of manual and triggered events. With a Remote Connect trial or subscription, enhanced Digital Key functionality lets drivers manage vehicle access through the native digital wallet on a compatible smart device.
Underpinning some of these capabilities is Arene, an all-new software platform created by Woven by Toyota. According to Toyota, it enables enhancements to advanced safety, security, voice recognition and connectivity features and supports over-the-air updates.
All grades include a five-year Connected Services trial for Remote Connect, Safety Connect and Service Connect, along with a three-month Drive Connect trial and a 30-day, unlimited-data Wi-Fi Connect trial. Toyota notes that connected services depend on 5G network coverage.
Toyota’s Trailer ADAS Suite Detects, Monitors and Steers Around the Load
Toyota calls towing a core pillar of the full-size truck experience, and the 2027 Tundra adds a set of Trailer Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, known as TADAS, on top of Toyota Safety Sense 4.0.
Automated Trailer Detection uses rear radars and a camera to detect a trailer and measure its physical characteristics, then enters that information into a redesigned Trailer Garage menu. Trailer Garage has moved from the meter cluster to the multimedia system, which Toyota says gives it greater visibility and improved functionality.
Trailer Blind Spot Monitor extends the standard detection zone beyond the vehicle’s body to cover the length of the trailer and its immediate surroundings, expanding the monitored area according to trailer size. Trailer Lane Trace Assist is a towing-optimized version of Lane Tracing Assist that provides automated steering support to maintain lane centering in certain conditions. Toyota says it can compensate when lanes split and help manage uneven roads and certain wind disturbances.
Trailer Backup Guide, improved for 2027, adds dynamic on-screen guidelines, a slider interface and semi-automated steering support for complex maneuvers. Toyota says it can guide a path to the trailer and help detect jackknife risks.
Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 Is Standard on Every Tundra
The Tundra’s standard safety suite includes the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist and Proactive Driving Assist, with improved hardware and detection capabilities. Convenience and safety features include the Panoramic View Monitor, Safe Exit Alert and Rear Camera Detection.
Also included is the Emergency Drive Stop System. While Lane Tracing Assist is activated, Toyota says the system can bring the vehicle to a stop under certain conditions if it determines that the driver is not attentive.
Toyota Refines the Tundra’s Ride With Updated Adaptive and Air Suspension
Toyota says its Adaptive Variable Suspension has been enhanced for a more refined and composed ride and is now standard on the Capstone grade. A simplified three-mode drive selection is meant to give clearer changes in ride character and handling feel. A new premium combination of AVS and air suspension is available across all grades, replacing the previous air-only setup on certain grades. The company says it is designed to support load-leveling for towing and hauling while maintaining ride comfort and off-road capability.
Toyota Keeps the i-FORCE MAX Hybrid at the Top of the Tundra Powertrain Lineup
The available i-FORCE MAX hybrid twin-turbo V6 produces 437 net combined horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque, supporting a maximum towing capacity of up to 12,000 pounds. A 32.2-gallon fuel tank is now standard on all grades, along with a tow hitch and a 7/4 pin connector. An available 2.4-kW inverter provides onboard power for worksites, tailgates and outdoor activities, and the available TRD Performance Package is aimed at customers seeking a more responsive driving experience.
