Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has announced the release of the 2026 model year updates for its flagship Polestar 2. These updates bring a host of technological and design enhancements, further elevating the performance and driving experience of the electric sedan. The refreshed model is now available to order in select European markets via Polestar.com, with other regions set to follow later in the year.
Upgraded Processor and Infotainment System
One of the most significant changes for the Polestar 2’s 2026 model year is the introduction of a new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor chip. This upgrade provides a substantial boost in the car’s infotainment capabilities, resulting in faster download speeds for in-car apps, quicker response times within apps, and a smoother overall performance of the vehicle’s center display. The enhanced chip ensures that the Polestar 2 remains at the forefront of in-car technology, providing a seamless and efficient user experience for drivers and passengers alike.
Bowers & Wilkins Audio System
In keeping with Polestar’s commitment to high-end design and premium performance, the 2026 model year Polestar 2 is now available with a top-tier audio system developed in partnership with Bowers & Wilkins. This advanced sound system features 14 speakers and delivers a total output of 1,350 watts, offering an immersive listening experience. The system’s Tweeter-on-Top technology ensures crystal-clear sound clarity, while the Continuum midrange speakers minimize distortion for a rich, vibrant audio quality. Design accents such as branded details on the front door panels and stainless-steel mesh on the rear door panels highlight the sophisticated sound system, elevating both the auditory and aesthetic appeal of the vehicle’s interior.
New Exterior and Interior Features
The exterior of the Polestar 2 also sees notable updates for 2026. A new color, Dune, joins the lineup. This contemporary metallic shade features a smooth mica finish and a sandy hue, replacing the previous Jupiter color. Additionally, Polestar introduces a fresh five-spoke design for the 20-inch forged alloy Performance wheels, which are the lightest available to date for the Polestar 2. These wheels are part of the optional Performance Pack and enhance the car’s sleek, dynamic profile.
Inside, the Polestar 2’s interior options receive an upgrade as well, with a new bio-attributed MicroTech upholstery in Charcoal, featuring a distinctive quilting design, and Black Ash décor. This stylish interior package is available with the optional Plus Pack, providing drivers with a luxurious, eco-conscious option for their vehicle’s cabin.
Polestar’s Continued Focus on Innovation
Polestar’s CEO, Michael Lohscheller, expressed his excitement over the continued evolution of the Polestar 2. “Polestar 2 is the cornerstone our business was built on. Seeing our first EV continue to receive numerous enhancements with every model year introduction is truly amazing,” said Lohscheller. “Now with a comprehensive round of technology, design, and option updates, including the outstanding Bowers & Wilkins audio system and faster processor chip, I’m convinced our customers will love the experience Polestar 2 offers even more.”
Plug & Charge and New Prime Pack Options
For added convenience, Polestar is now including Plug & Charge technology in the 2026 model year Polestar 2. This feature allows for a streamlined charging experience, where drivers can simply park at a public charging station, plug in the cable, and let the car automatically initiate and authenticate the charging process. The system eliminates the need for separate charging cards or apps, offering a hassle-free solution for electric vehicle owners. This technology is available through the Polestar Charge app and can be easily activated through the car’s settings.
In addition to the individual packages available for customization, Polestar is also introducing a new optional Prime Pack. This package bundles the Pilot, Plus, and Climate packs, as well as rear privacy glass, into one cost-effective bundle. The addition of tinted rear side windows, alongside the tailgate window, further enhances the vehicle’s privacy and comfort.
Improved Range with Battery Update
The 2026 model year Polestar 2 also sees an update to its battery options. The Standard Range Single Motor variant now features a new 70 kWh battery from CATL, replacing the previous 69 kWh LG Chem battery. This update results in an improved range of up to 554 kilometers (WLTP), an increase from the previous range of 546 kilometers. This update makes the Polestar 2 an even more compelling choice for drivers seeking long-range performance in a stylish, sustainable electric vehicle.
Availability and Ordering
The 2026 model year Polestar 2 is now available for order through Polestar’s official website, Polestar.com, in select European markets (excluding Iceland and Ireland), as well as Hong Kong and Israel. Additional markets will be included later in the year, offering a broader audience the opportunity to experience the updated vehicle.
Polestar continues to expand its commitment to sustainability and innovation, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions and advancing electric mobility. The 2026 model year Polestar 2 is a clear reflection of the brand’s ambition to push the boundaries of design, technology, and performance within the electric vehicle market.
