At the core of the announcement is an enhancement to Bentley’s Blyncsy product, a solution that uses artificial intelligence to process crowdsourced imagery for the automated detection and inspection of roadway assets. By integrating Google Street View’s global panoramic imagery with Google’s Vertex AI platform, Bentley aims to give transportation professionals a clearer and more comprehensive view of road conditions—from potholes and faded crosswalks to damaged signs and malfunctioning traffic lights.
“This new integration builds on our legacy of using repurposed imagery to support transportation maintenance,” said Mark Pittman, director of Transportation AI at Bentley Systems. “With Google’s 360-degree Street View imagery and advanced AI models, we’re providing transportation departments around the world with sharper, faster, and more predictive insights.”
The product expansion follows a strategic partnership between Bentley and Google announced in October 2024. That alliance was formed with the goal of combining Bentley’s engineering software expertise with Google’s vast repository of geospatial data and artificial intelligence capabilities to reshape how infrastructure is designed, built, monitored, and maintained.
According to Bentley, the enriched Blyncsy solution will allow transportation agencies and their consulting partners to more rapidly identify issues in the field and observe changes in infrastructure over time—without dispatching personnel for on-site inspections. This capability is particularly valuable not only for routine maintenance but also for emergency response, where speed and accuracy are essential for assessing storm or earthquake damage.
Google’s Yael Maguire, vice president and general manager for Google Maps Platform and Google Earth, underscored the practical benefits of the collaboration. “Cities and businesses have long turned to our geospatial tools for insight,” Maguire said. “With Bentley, we’re now helping leaders in both the public and private sectors tap into a new level of mobility intelligence—turning imagery into actionable infrastructure data.”
The enhanced Blyncsy analytics, part of Bentley’s broader Asset Analytics portfolio, is expected to be generally available in 2025. The company said the initial rollout will focus on transportation infrastructure, with plans to expand into other sectors in the near future.
