Surf’s Up for Moke America’s Street Legal Electric Beach Cruiser

Moke America, the vehicle manufacturer that revived the iconic 1960s open-air cruiser, has introduced a fully street-legal version of its signature car that can reach speeds of 45 miles per hour — a significant upgrade from its previous classification as a low-speed vehicle.

The company announced that the enhanced Moke has received approval from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and an Environmental Protection Agency Certificate of Conformity, marking a turning point for the brand as it expands beyond neighborhood streets and beach towns into broader road use.

Battery Range and Charging Capabilities

The reimagined Moke runs on a lithium battery that provides up to 80 miles of range per charge. Owners can recharge the vehicle using a standard 110-volt household outlet in approximately six hours, making it accessible for everyday use without specialized charging equipment.

“This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for,” said Todd Rome, founder and chief executive of Moke America. “Our customers have been asking for more speed, and now we can proudly say we’ve delivered. The Moke is no longer just a beach cruiser; it’s a fully electric, road-ready ride built for fun, versatility, and unforgettable memories.”

Customization and Cultural Legacy

The street-legal Moke maintains the brand’s emphasis on personalization, offering 13 body colors, seat options in white, black or wicker, canvas Bimini tops and various rim colors. Additional accessories are available through the company’s online shop.

The Moke traces its heritage to the 1960s, when it became associated with style icons like Brigitte Bardot and appeared in James Bond films. The modern electric version has attracted attention from celebrities including the Kardashian family and fashion influencers, while the company has expanded to 30 dealerships nationwide.

As a low-volume electric vehicle manufacturer, Moke America continues to position itself in a niche market, offering what it describes as a street-legal replica passenger vehicle with limited availability and distinctive retro styling.

Pricing for the base model starts at $25,475.00.
