GM Charges Up to Second Place in EV Sales in the US with Highest Tax Credits

In October 2024, General Motors (GM) reached an important milestone, surpassing 300,000 electric vehicles sold in the U.S. since 2016. With the North American total exceeding 370,000. GM is now the second-largest seller of EVs in the U.S. for the third quarter.

GM offers vehicles with highest tax credits of $7500 including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Cadillac Lyriq and Silverado EV which starting in 2024 were available at the dealership as long as the buyers were under the income caps. To qualify for the discount a vehicle must:,ave a battery capacity of at least 7 kilowatt-hours,Weigh less than 14,000 pounds, made by an approved manufacturer and use battery materials must be sourced from approved sources.

GM claims it offers a variety of new EV options to suit nearly every type of driver. From the luxurious Cadillac LYRIQ and the GMC HUMMER EV supertruck and SUV to the hardworking Chevy Silverado EV and the affordable, family-friendly Chevy Equinox EV. GM claim it makes the switch to electric vehicles accessible and appealing.

If there are any 2023 Bolt EUV or EV around they also qualified for $7500 tax credits.

GM’s strategy is delivering results. In the third quarter of 2024, GM set a new EV sales record, delivering over 32,000 all-electric vehicles in the U.S.—a 46% increase quarter-over-quarter and a 60% improvement year-over-year.

Alongside building EVs, GM is expanding access to public charging stations and increasing the number of charger stalls in convenient locations across the country. GM is also enhancing home charging options and developing ways for EVs to serve as backup power sources.

In addition to EV advancements, GM continues to refine its gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, providing customers with a range of excellent choices. More innovative EVs, like Cadillac’s OPTIQ and ESCALADE IQ, are on the way, ensuring customers won’t have to compromise when they’re ready to go electric.

With decades of experience advancing EV technology, GM’s research, engineering, and design efforts are coming to fruition. Reaching over 300,000 EV sales in the U.S. reflects GM’s dedication to the EV market, and the company looks forward to celebrating its next sales milestone.

The GM Energy PowerShift Charger and GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit require an adequately charged and properly equipped GM EV with bidirectional charging capabilities, a properly equipped home, and proper grid interconnection. Some eligible 2024 model-year EVs may need a dealership or over-the-air update for bidirectional charging. Various factors, such as weather, battery life, vehicle use, and other conditions, may affect power supply duration, which could be interrupted.*
