5GAA Shows C-V2X
In Berlin, the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) recently showcased advancements in Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology to support “Vision Zero,” aiming for zero road fatalities. The event featured a 5G-V2X Direct integration demonstrations.
Audi and BMW vehicles showed off 5G-V2X Direct tech. With help from Autotalks, Bosch, and Commsignia, these cars can now alert drivers about pedestrians and cyclists even before they’re visible. High bandwidth and low latency were the stars of this demo.
Bosch, Ericsson, and Mercedes-Benz, highlighted real-time safety alerts for vulnerable road users and emergency vehicles. This tech is powered by precise positioning and low-latency networks, making roads safer than ever.
To show that C-V2X is about both safety and efficiency, Audi, supported by Commsignia and Autotalks, demonstrated a use case for “cooperative parking” based on 5G-V2X Direct.
In line with 5GAA’s Visionary 2030 Roadmap, 5G is continuously being deployed in many car models and 5G-V2X Direct is expected to be mass-deployed in commercial vehicle models as early as 2026. This week’s event underlined the continuous commitment of major European automakers to 5G-V2X following 5GAA’s Open Statement in 2023.
Keysight Technologies and Analog Devices Partner 4 GMSL2
Keysight Technologies and Analog Devices (ADI) have partnered to develop a test solution for Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link (GMSL2) devices, supporting the automotive industry’s demand for high-speed data communication for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This collaboration aims to enhance the Physical Medium Attachment (PMA) testing capabilities for GMSL2, essential for in-vehicle video, audio, and communication networks, crucial for next-gen ADAS.
Keysight’s solution, featuring a forward and reverse transmit eye mask, will be demonstrated at electronica 2024 from November 12-15, highlighting its comprehensive testing and compliance applications for high-performance automotive systems. The new testing capabilities streamline validation, debugging, and time-to-market for automotive manufacturers by ensuring robust GMSL2 standards and interoperability. This milestone strengthens Keysight and ADI’s ongoing commitment to advancing automotive testing technology.
Volvo & Daimler Truck SDV Partnership
As announced in May this year, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck intend to create a joint venture to develop a common software-defined vehicle platform and dedicated truck operating system, providing the basis for future software-defined commercial vehicles. The two leading companies in the commercial vehicle industry have now signed a binding agreement to establish the joint venture and are working towards setting up the company that will be headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The software-defined vehicle platform will enable Volvo Group and Daimler Truck and potential other future customers of the joint venture to provide stand-alone digital vehicle functions for their products.
Netradyne Launches Advanced Driver Drowsiness Detection Sensor Ahead of National Prevention Week
Netradyne introduced a new Driver Drowsiness Detection System (DMS) Sensor— a breakthrough AI-driven technology designed to identify early signs of driver drowsiness more effectively than current systems.
Using extensive sleep research and a comprehensive dataset, the DMS Sensor detects subtle indicators like microsleeps and blink patterns, enabling real-time alerts that help drivers avoid accidents.
Optimized for low-light conditions and compatible with Netradyne’s Driver•i® system, the sensor also supports fleet managers with data to enhance coaching and scheduling. The solution debuts as an add-on to Netradyne’s D-450, available now in the U.S.
