Apple CarPlay for compatible iPhones will be offered in all 2016 Buick Regal and LaCrosse models, Android Auto will be launched later. GMC also announced Apple CarPlay capability for the 2016 Canyon, Yukon and Sierra. Android Auto will be offered on some Sierra models at the beginning of the model year and all Sierra, Canyon and Yukon models later in the year.
Buick IntelliLinks to CarPlay & Android Auto
Apple CarPlay will be standard in the 2016 model year Buick Regal and LaCrosse, providing a smarter, simpler way to use an iPhone while on the go.
CarPlay connects iPhones through Buick’s IntelliLink system, integrating applications such as navigation, hands-free text messaging, contact lists and entertainment apps for news or music onto the eight-inch-diagonal IntelliLink radio display.
Later in the model year, Android Auto capability will also be offered with IntelliLink. CarPlay and Android Auto capability complement the OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot offered in all 2016 Buick models, including Verano, Encore and Enclave.
GMC’s latest infotainment systems include an eight-inch-diagonal screen version offered on Canyon, Yukon and Sierra, which will be compatible only with Apple CarPlay at the beginning of the 2016 model year. A seven-inch-diagonal screen radio is offered on Sierra base models and will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability at the beginning of the model year. Android Auto capability is expected to be available on the eight-inch system later in the 2016 model year.
A majority of the CarPlay and Android Auto apps are controlled via voice commands through a steering wheel button, to help drivers keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel.
