BMW iX SAV EV with 435 mi Range, Personal Assistant & More Efficency

BMW unveiled a new and improved version of the iX Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) that extends range, enhances performance, and refines its unmistakable design. Already a benchmark for premium electric driving, the latest iteration of the all-electric iX pushes the boundaries of what a luxury EV can be.

With an eye on both power and efficiency, BMW has engineered the latest iX models to deliver a significant range increase—up to an impressive 435 miles (WLTP). That boost, achieved through refinements in power electronics and wheel optimizations, underscores the effectiveness of BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology. Paired with cutting-edge eDrive innovations, the latest iX lineup reaffirms BMW’s commitment to sustainable performance.

A Design Evolution

Subtle but meaningful tweaks define the new iX’s exterior, giving it a sportier, more assertive look. A redesigned kidney grille—now featuring a sleeker frame and a pattern of vertical and diagonal elements—anchors the front end, while new LED headlight elements provide a more distinctive lighting signature. The rear bumper, now featuring a seamless design with more body-colored surfaces, lends the iX a more refined aesthetic.

For those looking for an extra dose of aggression, BMW now offers an M Sport package, complete with larger air intakes, vertical rear reflectors, and darkened M Shadow Line headlights and taillights. The range-topping iX M70 xDrive takes things a step further, boasting an exclusive M-specific kidney grille, black mirror caps, and striking 22-inch M light-alloy wheels.

More Power, More Range

Under the hood—or rather, under the floor—BMW has fine-tuned the iX’s dual-motor setup for greater output across all variants. The entry-level iX xDrive45 now delivers 408 horsepower, shaving a full second off its 0-62 mph sprint, bringing it down to 5.1 seconds. The mid-tier iX xDrive60 sees a slight power bump to 544 horsepower, cutting its 0-62 mph time to 4.6 seconds.

Then there’s the iX M70 xDrive, BMW’s high-performance electric flagship. Packing 659 horsepower and a staggering 811 lb-ft of torque in its most aggressive drive mode, the M70 rockets from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. A new inverter system and battery cell technology contribute to improved energy efficiency across the board, allowing the iX to travel farther on a single charge.

The 435-Mile Benchmark

Thanks to refinements in battery chemistry and enhanced power management, the new iX xDrive60 now boasts an industry-leading 435-mile range (WLTP). Even the entry-level xDrive45 stretches its range up to 374 miles, while the M70 xDrive, despite its performance focus, still manages up to 373 miles per charge. An adaptive recuperation system further enhances efficiency, while BMW’s MAX RANGE function optimizes energy consumption for extended trips.

Charging Gets Smarter and Faster

Charging speeds have also been improved. The iX xDrive45 now supports DC fast charging up to 175 kW, while the xDrive60 and M70 max out at 195 kW. That means adding over 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Optimized battery pre-conditioning and improved thermal management ensure consistent fast-charging performance, while a new charging socket design makes plug-in connections smoother and more secure.

BMW has also enhanced its digital ecosystem for EV owners. The iX now offers more intelligent route planning via the BMW Maps system, allowing drivers to pre-select charging stops, set preferred providers, and even estimate charging costs en route—all from the My BMW App.

Sharper Handling, Smoother Ride

Chassis refinements further elevate the driving experience. The iX’s suspension setup has been recalibrated to accommodate the new battery technology, with updated wheel bearings and low-resistance tires contributing to both efficiency and ride quality. The range-topping M70 xDrive benefits from an adaptive two-axle air suspension system, M-tuned roll stabilization, and rear-wheel steering for sharper dynamics.

For the first time, the iX offers optional 23-inch wheels—unique in its segment—paired with noise-reducing tires for a quieter cabin experience. BMW’s Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) now allows for greater driver customization, including a fully defeatable traction control system for those who prefer a more engaging drive.

Advanced Tech and Luxury Inside

The iX’s cabin remains a showcase of modern luxury, featuring high-end materials and cutting-edge tech. A new M Sport interior package, available across the lineup, includes sculpted M multifunction seats, an anthracite headliner, and a leather-wrapped M steering wheel. The standard Curved Display—running BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 operating system—remains the centerpiece, now offering improved voice control, in-car gaming, and enhanced connectivity via 5G integration.

BMW’s latest driver assistance technology also makes its way into the new iX, including the advanced Highway Assistant, which allows for hands-free driving at speeds up to 81 mph. The system now features an industry-first Active Lane Change Assistant, which lets drivers change lanes simply by looking in the direction they want to move.

The Future of BMW’s Electric Vision

Built at BMW’s Dingolfing plant, a hub for EV production, the latest iX is set to arrive in key markets—including the U.S., U.K., and Germany—in spring 2025. As BMW continues its push toward an electrified future, the iX remains at the forefront, blending performance, luxury, and sustainability into one compelling package.

With more range, more power, and smarter technology, the latest BMW iX doesn’t just keep pace with the evolving EV landscape—it sets the standard.
