Caruma announced it will integrate Accuscore’s driver risk scoring engine into Caruma’s Intelligent Connected-Vehicle Platform. Accuscore, a leading-edge provider of driver risk scoring analytics for insurance providers and fleet managers, will license the technology to Caruma to further the platform leader’s technology into various vehicles and its Caruma Cam device for the most accurate driver scoring system in the telematics arena.

Caruma combines artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision with high definition video collected by its windshield-mounted Caruma Cam device that simultaneously monitors the driver for drowsy or distracted driving, and the road for near misses, tailgating, lane departure and other factors that directly impact safety, and connects vehicles to a continuous learning cloud and an AI-powered Open Vehicle Network™. This context-rich information provides the evidential data for Accuscore’s driver-scoring system and will result in the highly accurate identification of driving risk that is required for more accurate underwriting and optimal effectiveness of fleet loss prevention initiatives.

“The ability to extract accurate risk summary information from context-rich video in a fully automated fashion is the key to accurately understanding driver behavior,” said Chris Carson, CEO at Caruma Technologies. “We look forward to working closely with Accuscore as both companies apply the most advanced, predictive analytics to the determination of driving risk.”

“I am excited about the potential for both companies as we advance these data analytics technologies and embark on new era in the science of driver risk management with a solution that exceeds any capability currently available on the market,” said Alan Mann, President of Accuscore.

A Differentiated Approach with High Accuracy
Accuscore offers a unique approach to how a driver’s actual performance behind the wheel is measured and scored. While all telematics scoring systems on the market today rely on ‘g-force triggering,’ Accuscore’s scoring engine focuses on the per-second measurement of a vehicle’s actual energy displacement and does not have to wait for a “driving event” to trigger the start of a driver assessment or scoring session. This system evaluates drivers every second that they are behind the wheel—not just when ‘triggered events’ are created and/or experience— providing an extremely accurate measurement of a driver’s key ‘risk’ factors.

Accuscore generates an accurate scoring value for even the safest drivers. The ability to distinguish the subtle differences between ‘good’ and ‘great’ performing drivers highlights the accuracy of Accuscore’s scoring engine and fosters an environment that rewards drivers in a positive environment while encouraging continuous improvement.

Accuscore goes beyond current industry scoring standards by using key algorithmic compensations and risk factors that take into account per-second ‘vehicle energy displacement’ data to ensure a score that accurately represents a driver’s actual performance behind the wheel, thereby helping to reduce overall costs for better performing drivers.

With an accurate evaluation based on vision-augmented data and key performance indicators, fleet managers can also make informed, data-driven decisions about their drivers and quickly screen prospective drivers.  The ability to track and measure key actions and behaviors, such as eyes closing for an extended period or engaging in distracted behaviors, and create an accurate risk rating for the frequency and severity of distraction events addresses an important industry need that highlights the technology partnership between Caruma and Accuscore.

Accuscore is a data processing company committed to determining the most accurate prediction of driving risk through advanced interpretation of vehicle motion. This scoring can be delivered using either smartphones, telematics devices, or video cameras. Accuscore delivers value to commercial insurers through more trusted identification of driving risk as well as to fleets directly by creating the foundation for a more effective loss prevention program. Its founders have been involved directly in driver risk identification and correction for over 12 years, having formerly held executive positions in major driver safety technology companies as well as having provided significant services to providers of UBI solutions in the consumer space.
