INFINITI QX80 Track Spec and Terrain Spec @Quail

At this year’s Monterey Car Week, INFINITI revealed two concept takes on its flagship SUV, the all-new 2025 QX80. The pair, dubbed QX80 Track Spec and QX80 Terrain Spec, showed how the brand envisioned its big luxury hauler when pushed toward opposite extremes—one aimed at the street, the other at the trail. The reveal took place at The Quail, where INFINITI aimed to demonstrate not just capability, but how performance and adventure could coexist with the luxury trappings that defined the QX80.

The QX80 Track Spec leaned hard into the idea of a performance SUV. With its wide stance, 24-inch wheels, matte metallic black-blue wrap, fender flares, and aggressive aero pieces like a front splitter and rear diffuser, it was clear INFINITI intended to put the Track Spec in conversation with the most serious sport utility performers. Quad exhaust tips drove the point home. Underneath, the story got more interesting: the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 had been worked over with a new turbocharger system, intercooler, injectors, intake, and freer-flowing exhaust, pushing output past 650 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. That figure represented roughly a 50 percent increase over stock and marked the highest output ever seen in an INFINITI. Engineers claimed the upgrades used stock internals, an indication that the factory engine architecture was robust. Big Brembo brakes were added to keep it all in check.

If the Track Spec was about road dominance, the Terrain Spec took the QX80 in the other direction—straight off the pavement. Outfitted for overlanding, it wore off-road wheels shod with all-terrain tires, an elevated ride height, and heavy-duty fender flares. The body was wrapped in satin dark basalt vinyl, while a side-exit exhaust and protective covers over the fascias spoke to its readiness for abuse in rough country. Roof-mounted limb risers, a light bar, and a pop-up tent made it clear the Terrain Spec was meant to take its occupants far beyond the asphalt and keep them there in comfort.

Technology carried over from the standard QX80 would have proved particularly useful off-road. INFINITI’s Invisible Hood View allowed drivers to see directly beneath the front of the SUV on the in-car display, a clever trick for picking a way through rocks and ruts. The 3D Around View Monitor, with its ability to stitch together a rotating, third-person perspective, gave drivers a better sense of their immediate environment when crawling through obstacles.

Designers said the two concepts were inspired by the diverse terrain of Southern California—canyon roads that demanded performance and mountain trails that demanded durability. The message was that the QX80 could play convincingly in both spaces, without losing its luxury identity. “High performance and off-road capability are emotional entry points into how today’s drivers experience luxury,” explained INFINITI executives. The Track Spec and Terrain Spec, then, were less about production intent than about stretching the brand’s design language and engineering ambition to test how far the QX80 could go.

Both concepts arrived at a time when the QX80 was enjoying positive attention in the marketplace. The redesigned 2025 model had already collected accolades, including a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, recognition from Popular Science, and awards for best new interior from automotive media associations. In Monterey, INFINITI also previewed another future model with the QX65 Monograph concept, underscoring that the QX80 pair were part of a broader product push.

For INFINITI, the Track Spec and Terrain Spec weren’t production vehicles, at least not yet. Instead, they served as rolling demonstrations of how a large luxury SUV could be bent to serve vastly different missions. One shouted horsepower and grip, the other whispered adventure and capability. Both, however, spoke the same design language, unmistakably tied to the new QX80, and both were meant to remind enthusiasts that INFINITI wasn’t afraid to take chances in an evolving luxury SUV landscape.
