Mercedes-Benz & Microsoft Teams Video, Security & 365 Copilot
Mercedes-Benz is deepening its collaboration with Microsoft to transform vehicles into mobile workspaces through an expanded suite of productivity tools integrated into its new MB.OS operating system. Launching this summer in the all-new CLA, the automaker becomes the first to support in-car camera use for Microsoft Teams video calls while driving—safely controlled to minimize distraction.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz is the first automaker to natively integrate Microsoft Intune, enabling secure, enterprise-compliant access to work apps and data, while separating business and personal information. The company is also pioneering the integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot, bringing generative AI into the car to assist with tasks like summarizing emails, preparing for meetings, and managing schedules via voice commands.
These features, launching initially in Europe and the U.S., position the vehicle as a third workspace, enhancing business connectivity on the road with industry-first applications of Microsoft’s ecosystem in automotive environments.
SK keyfoundry and LB Semicon RDL Technology
SK keyfoundry and LB Semicon have successfully co-developed and completed reliability testing of a cutting-edge Direct RDL (Redistribution Layer) technology based on 8-inch wafers. This innovation, crucial to next-generation semiconductor packaging, enhances performance and reliability for power semiconductors, particularly in automotive applications. The Direct RDL technology achieves high current capacity, 15 μm metal wiring thickness, and up to 70% chip area wiring density, qualifying it for AEC-Q100 Auto Grade 1 classification and ensuring robust operation in extreme temperatures from –40℃ to +125℃.
This development positions the new RDL solution ahead of competitors, with practical advantages for mobile, industrial, and especially automotive applications. The technology reduces chip size, lowers power consumption, and offers cost-efficient packaging, supported by a comprehensive Design Guide and Process Development Kit. These resources allow customers to tailor solutions for their specific semiconductor design needs, helping manufacturers meet stringent performance and reliability standards.
Both companies credit the rapid progress to their complementary expertise—SK keyfoundry’s advanced semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and LB Semicon’s back-end processing technology. Leaders from both firms emphasized that the joint development marks a milestone in their commitment to innovation in semiconductor packaging. The collaboration is expected to drive further competitiveness in global automotive and high-performance semiconductor markets.
Rivian Custom Google Maps Navigation
Rivian has unveiled a new navigation system powered by Google Maps, offering a tailored in-car experience built using Google’s Auto SDK. The system, called Rivian Navigation with Google Maps, combines Rivian’s distinctive interface with Google’s trusted routing, real-time traffic data, satellite imagery, and place information.
This new platform enhances Rivian’s existing features—such as EV charging stop planning and Charging Scores—while delivering the reliability and depth of Google Maps. The collaboration allows Rivian to maintain its unique design while leveraging Google’s advanced mapping technology.
The rollout of Rivian Navigation with Google Maps begins today for all Rivian drivers. Google also announced it is partnering with additional automakers to create similarly customized navigation systems using its Auto SDK.
LG Brings webOS-Based In-Car Streaming for Kias
LG Electronics has announced that its webOS-based Automotive Content Platform (ACP) will power the in-car entertainment experience for Kia’s new lineup of European models, starting with the recently launched EV3 and expanding to the EV4, EV5, and New Sportage. Marking LG’s expansion into Europe following success in Korea, the ACP transforms vehicles into connected entertainment hubs. Passengers can access popular streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and LG Channels when the vehicle is parked. As part of LG’s broader software-defined vehicle initiative, the ACP is designed to deliver a seamless, smart TV-like experience inside the car, enhancing comfort and connectivity on the road.
Atari & AirConsole Classic Games in Volkswagen Cars
AirConsole, a rising in-car gaming platform, has partnered with legendary game publisher Atari to bring Asteroids: Recharged and Breakout: Recharged to Volkswagen vehicles. These arcade classics, modernized with co-op play and enhanced features, are now available to play through the car’s infotainment system using a smartphone as a controller.
The games, accessible via AirConsole with a VW Connect Plus subscription and an internet-connected phone, signal a shift in how passengers spend time during charging or waiting periods. This move reflects a broader trend of transforming vehicles into entertainment hubs, with AirConsole previously partnering with major brands like Sony, Mattel, and Bandai Namco.
As part of its expanding library, AirConsole plans to add Missile Command: Recharged in the future. This collaboration underscores the vehicle’s evolution from mere transportation to a new arena for digital entertainment and cultural engagement.
onsemi Invests $8M in Stony Brook University
onsemi will invest $8 million in collaboration with Stony Brook University to establish a wide band gap semiconductor research center focused on advancing silicon carbide technologies critical to AI and electrification. The initiative is part of a broader $20 million partnership with Empire State Development aimed at making New York a national leader in power semiconductor innovation. Set to open in early 2027, the facility will feature advanced labs for research and education. Stony Brook will also launch new academic programs to train a future workforce in wide band gap semiconductors. Governor Kathy Hochul and university leaders hailed the partnership as a strategic move to bolster national security, domestic chip production, and economic growth.
