Uber Lyft No More Curbside Pickup for Looters During Curfew—

Before attending a demonstration, demonstrators who must not be on the street after curfew may have few ways to get home without their own transportation. Uber and Lyft have suspended operations during curfews in many parts of the country. Looters also will have limited transportation options.

Uber users will be notified in the apps if service is not available. The availability is dependent upon what city official have requested.

Uber stopped service in Minneapolis, Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles over the weekend.

In New York City app-based vehicle services are suspended after the 8:00 pm curfew and transit providers have shut down service for various times. Yellow City Cabs are allowed to continue to operate.

A person familiar with the matter told Politico that looters were using for-hire services to carry goods and escape from police.

[For-hire vehicles] may resume service at 12:30 a.m. June 3, to assist essential workers coming and going to work or individuals seeking medical treatment/supplies in the overnight hour. Yellow or Green Taxis operating during the 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. period must be transporting an essential worker or individuals seeking medical treatment/supplies. Passengers may be required to provide a valid reason for their travel to NYPD.

The city of Chicago was criticized for shutting down public transit during curfews and providing an discount Uber code.

Public Transportation Diverted

Los Angeles Metro suspended some lines and changing routes in reaction to the protest activity. In areas where there is protests the Metro trains are skipping stations. Bus lines are taking detours around protests.

No Scooters Either

Lime has removed scooters from streets and paused service in select U.S. cities following the directives of local regulators.

Citi Bike service shuts down at curfew in New York City however “When the system is shut down to new trips, anyone who has a bike out can still return it to a station.” Citi Bike service will resume at 5:00 am Wednesday. The company Tweeted, “We disagree with this decision and believe it is important for the system to remain open and provide a reliable transportation option. We know how disruptive this is to everyone who relies on Citi Bike to get home — especially essential workers.

Food delivery service DoorDash also suspended deliveries during curfews.
