Toyota Debuts Camry GT-S Concept
At the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Toyota unveiled the Camry GT-S concept, a performance-oriented take on the 2025 Camry XSE all-wheel-drive hybrid. Retaining the production model’s 232-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain and interior, the GT-S focuses on enhanced styling and chassis performance.
The concept rides 1.5 inches lower on adjustable coilovers and features upgraded braking with eight-piston front and six-piston rear calipers, paired with 20-inch performance wheels wrapped in 245/35R20 tires. Designed by Toyota’s CALTY Design Research studio in Ann Arbor, the GT-S sports new aerodynamic components, an aggressive stance, and a striking “Inferno Flare” paint finish.
Toyota design leaders Kevin Hunter and Adam Rabinowitz described the concept as a “performance hero” for the Camry lineup—intended to explore the potential of a sportier, more dynamic variant that could influence future production models.
The GT-S joins more than two dozen Toyota concept builds showcased at SEMA 2025, highlighting the company’s diverse approach across internal combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell technologies.
Here are detailed summaries of the top 10 stories leading up to the 2025 SEMA Show:
Toyota Corolla Cross Nasu Wrap and Body Kit
Toyota has unveiled the Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition concept ahead of the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Inspired by Japan’s Mount Nasu and aimed at outdoor adventurers, this custom version of the Corolla Cross Hybrid features extensive off-road enhancements. It sports custom Toyota truck wheels with Toyo Open Country A/T III tires, a suspension lift, widened black wheel arches, a hood scoop, and a redesigned bumper with silver accents and yellow tow hooks. Additional rugged touches include rock sliders, a roof rack with a cargo basket, auxiliary lighting, and custom illuminated door sills. Inside the rear, there’s a custom drawer system, refrigerator, JBL speaker, and fire extinguisher. A standout feature is its color-shifting wrap, which transitions between purple and orange — the purple nodding to the Japanese meaning of “nasu” (eggplant). The hybrid powertrain remains unchanged, delivering 196 horsepower from a 2.0-liter engine and three electric motors. While performance may dip due to added equipment, the concept maintains its 42 mpg EPA rating. Developed by Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development team, the Nasu Edition hints that some of its components may become available for retail versions in the future.
SEMA-Bound Custom Nissan Xterra Packs V-8 Power and a 6-Speed Manual
Nissan enthusiast Nick “Nismo Nick” Scherr has crafted a custom third-generation Nissan Xterra, dubbed “Project X,” ahead of the 2025 SEMA Show. Frustrated by the long wait for an official next-gen Xterra—reportedly expected by 2028—Scherr took initiative with a unique build. Based on a second-gen Xterra body featuring a desirable six-speed manual transmission, the vehicle replaces its original 4.0-liter V-6 with a more powerful V-8 engine for enhanced performance. Staying true to the Xterra’s roots on the Nissan Frontier platform, Scherr seamlessly integrated parts from the 2025 Frontier, including the front core supports, headlights, and even the entire dashboard—none of which required modifications. With backing from Nissan and NISMO, Scherr describes Project X as a “love letter to enthusiasts” who value capability and character. The vehicle has been over a year and a half in the making and is set to debut officially at SEMA on November 3. Scherr has documented much of the building process on his YouTube channel.

Mopar Sneak Peek
Mopar has offered an early preview of its upcoming project vehicles for the 2025 SEMA Show, set to open on November 4. While full details are being kept under wraps, two concept vehicles have been teased so far. The first concept appears to be a Dodge, likely a Charger, finished in a vivid purple that evokes the classic “Plum Crazy” color. Though the image is heavily obscured, subtle hood detailing suggests it’s probably not an electric model. Whether it’s powered by a V8 or a six-cylinder engine remains to be seen. The second teaser is clearly a Ram truck, featuring a prominent power dome hood with likely air scooping, flared wheel arches, and a badge indicating it has a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 under the hood.
