AGA Supports NHTSA Connected Car Laws

seatwithairbagThe Association of Global Automakers (Global Automakers) support vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications technology because it can to save thousands of lives.

AGA also supports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) research and V2V communications.

Many car makers and tech providers are working with theDepartment of Transportation researching Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) for safety.

V2V products use wireless spectrum similar to Wi-Fi in the 5.9 GHz frequency band.

The FCC is considering allowing this spectrum to be used for sharing with unlicensed Wi-Fi devices which car makers do not want the FCC to allow

They are concerned that allowing the use 5.9 GHz to others could interfere with safe V2V communications.

Communication delays of even thousandths of a single second are very important. AGA is working with the Wi-Fi industry to determine if it is safe to share this spectrum.
