Subaru of America, Inc. announced pricing onĀ for its 2027 Outback lineup, introducing a new entry-level trim that starts at $32,995 MSRP, $2,000 below the entry price of the outgoing model. The automaker also lowered MSRP by an average of $1,000 across most trim levels and said the 2027 Outback arrives at retailers nationwide later this year.
Subaru of America Frames the Outback as a Value Play
The company described the pricing move as an expression of its focus on affordability, saying the new base model carries far more content than previous base Outbacks without compromises in technology, capability or driver-assistance features. Jeff Walters, president and chief operating officer of Subaru of America, said the return of an entry-level Outback underscores the company’s commitment to affordable, safe and reliable vehicles. “Now, more than ever, we’re focused on offering vehicles designed to meet the budget and needs of families and new car buyers looking for value and capability,” Walters said.
The price adjustments are not uniform. According to Subaru, the Premium trim holds at $34,995, the same as the outgoing model, while the Limited, Touring, Limited XT, Touring XT and Wilderness trims all drop in price compared with 2026. The reductions range from $770 on the Limited XT to $1,900 on the Touring.
Subaru Outback Base Trim Adds Screens and Driver-Assist Hardware
The new base Outback is equipped with a 12.1-inch Subaru Multimedia System as standard, along with a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster. Subaru said the touchscreen offers improved responsiveness compared with the last-generation Outback and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard USB-A and USB-C chargers sit in the front console.
The digital cluster can be configured to show conventional gauges, turn-by-turn navigation, an EyeSight-focused mode with a large road-ahead display, or a “calm” mode intended to minimize distraction. Dual-zone automatic climate control with physical controls is also standard.
Safety and driver-assistance content on the base model includes Subaru’s EyeSight Driver-Assist Technology and the DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System. An all-weather package, with heated front seats, heated side mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer, is standard as well. Inside, the trim is upholstered in black Tricot cloth, and the 60/40-split folding rear seats open up 34.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, or 80.5 cubic feet with the seats folded forward.
Under the hood, the entry-level Outback uses a 2.5-liter, 180-horsepower Subaru Boxer engine paired with a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Standard X-MODE with Hill Descent Control and ladder-type roof rails with an 800-pound static load capacity round out the mechanical equipment. The base trim offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance and rides on silver-finished 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with all-season tires. A power rear gate with memory height is standard, and a removable rear trailer hitch bumper cover provides access to towing of up to 2,700 pounds when properly equipped.
Subaru Premium, Limited and Touring Trims Step Up in Comfort
The Outback Premium starts at $34,995 and adds black or gray StarTex upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. An options package priced at $2,045, which is $225 less than the previous model year, brings a 12.1-inch Subaru Multimedia Navigation System, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a power moonroof, a heated steering wheel and a wireless smartphone charger.
The Limited, priced at $39,995 and $1,720 below the prior year, builds on the Premium and its options package. It adds black or gray leather upholstery with khaki contrast stitching, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated rear seats and black-finish 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Touring costs $43,495, a reduction of $1,900. Subaru lists Nappa leather upholstery, machine-finished black 18-inch alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, a surround view monitor and a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat among its additions. The trim also carries an expanded EyeSight suite that includes Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection, Highway Hands-Free Assist, Pre-Curve Speed Control, Active Lane Change Assist and Automatic Resume Assist.
Subaru Limited XT and Touring XT Bring Turbo Power
The turbocharged Outback models use a 2.4-liter Subaru Boxer engine rated at 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The Limited XT adds that engine and 19-inch black-finish alloy wheels to the Limited’s equipment, starting at $43,595, which is $770 less than the outgoing version.
The most significant change for the Limited XT is on the driver-assistance side. For 2027, Subaru is making Highway Hands-Free Assist standard on the trim, along with Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection, Highway Hands-Free Active Lane Change Assist, Pre-Curve Speed Control and Automatic Resume Assist. Subaru said the additions enhance the trim’s value.
The Touring XT sits at the top of the lineup at $46,595, $1,400 less than the prior year. It combines the Touring’s equipment with the turbocharged engine and 19-inch machine-finished black alloy wheels.
Subaru Outback Wilderness Adds Hands-Free Option
The off-road-oriented Outback Wilderness starts at $43,995, which is $1,000 less than the previous year. It pairs the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with 9.5 inches of ground clearance, StarTex upholstery, electronically controlled adaptive dampers, Dual-Mode X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, 17-inch matte black alloy wheels, all-terrain tires and underbody protection. Standard equipment also includes a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and Wilderness-specific design elements such as anodized copper accents, a unique grille and cladding.
For 2027, the Wilderness gains access to Subaru’s hands-free driver-assistance features through an options package. Two packages are available. The first, at $1,995 ($50 less than the prior year), adds a power moonroof, the 12.1-inch navigation-equipped multimedia system and a surround view monitor. The second, at $5,090, adds Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 12-way power driver’s seat, an 8-way power passenger seat, Highway Hands-Free Assist, Highway Hands-Free Active Lane Change Assist and Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection.
Subaru Adds Three Colors for the 2027 Outback
Three exterior colors are new for the model year: Sand Dune Pearl, Daybreak Blue Pearl and Snowfall White Silica, the last of which Subaru describes as all-new. They join Crystal Black Silica, Crimson Red Pearl, Deep Emerald Green Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic and River Rock Pearl. Geyser Blue and Sand Dune Pearl are exclusive to the Wilderness. Premium paint colors, including Deep Emerald Green, River Rock Pearl, Sand Dune Pearl, Daybreak Blue Pearl and Snowfall White Silica, add $395.
