Direct ChassisLink Inc. to Deploy BlackBerry Radar for Great Freight Optimization

In a significant expansion of its digital infrastructure, Direct ChassisLink, Inc. (DCLI), the nation’s largest supplier of intermodal container chassis, announced on Monday that it will deploy BlackBerry Radar® asset-tracking technology across 100,000 of its DCL53 domestic 53-foot chassis units. The sweeping rollout marks a major milestone in the company’s broader strategy to modernize its fleet and set a new benchmark for efficiency, safety, and data-driven operations in the freight transportation sector.

The initiative builds upon a longstanding collaboration between the two companies. For over five years, DCLI has implemented BlackBerry Radar on a portion of its fleet, relying on the platform’s dependability and rich data insights. The expanded deployment signals a deepened trust in the system’s capabilities, as well as BlackBerry’s growing role as a premier technology partner in the logistics space.

With Radar’s advanced telemetry and asset intelligence features, DCLI expects to gain a comprehensive view of its operations in near real time—transforming how it manages assets, allocates resources, and services its customer base. The system delivers detailed insights into inventory status, vehicle location, chassis utilization, and terminal flow, while also streamlining billing and maintenance workflows through integrated sensor technology.

This move comes at a pivotal time for the transportation industry, which continues to contend with driver shortages, mounting fuel costs, and widespread disruptions in the supply chain. By upgrading its fleet with real-time visibility tools, DCLI aims not only to enhance operational agility but also to reduce chassis downtime and improve the overall customer experience.

“Amid ongoing volatility in global supply chains, visibility into fleet operations is more critical than ever,” said Christopher Plaat, Senior Vice President and General Manager of BlackBerry Radar. “This deployment reflects DCLI’s forward-thinking approach to solving persistent industry challenges. Radar’s intelligent analytics will empower their teams and customers alike to make smarter, faster decisions.”

According to BlackBerry, the enhanced capabilities offered by the Radar system will also elevate safety and compliance across DCLI’s expansive fleet. The platform aids in proactively identifying chassis requiring inspections under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, allows for optimized maintenance scheduling, and supports quicker responses to road service events—resulting in less time out of service and safer conditions for drivers and logistics personnel.

Lee Newitt, Chief Executive Officer at DCLI, emphasized the company’s continued focus on innovation and service quality. “This investment underscores our commitment to leading the intermodal industry through technology-driven excellence,” he said. “By equipping our entire DCL53 fleet with GPS tracking and sensor-based intelligence, we’re ensuring that our customers receive the highest standard of reliability and value.”

The move also represents a broader shift within the freight and logistics sector, where legacy systems are increasingly giving way to integrated digital solutions designed to support faster, more efficient transportation networks. Both BlackBerry and DCLI say they expect to further refine the platform based on operational feedback, with the goal of pushing the boundaries of what connected fleet management can achieve.

As DCLI takes this bold step in its digital transformation journey, the collaboration with BlackBerry may serve as a bellwether for an industry that is rapidly awakening to the potential of smart, connected logistics.
