LG Meets Cybersecurity Cert

LG Electronics (LG) is the first player to meet international testing standards for functional safety and cybersecurity management for vehicles. LG annually updates required certifications for its hardware and software solutions for electric vehicle components through leading global testing organization, TÜV Rheinland.

Recently, LG research engineer Kim Min-kyu obtained the Automotive Functional Safety Expert qualification, becoming the second individual ever to do so since the qualification program was established in 2011. Also, LG acquired functional safety certification for its ADAS front camera in the ‘4M’ (Material, Method, Machine, Man) categories in 2022. The company’s vehicle components also comply with the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) – the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) regulation No. 155 (UN R155).

Pres. Biden Visits Wolfspeed

Wolfspeed, Inc. (NYSE: WOLF), the global leader in Silicon Carbide technology, hosted the first stop of President Joe Biden’s ‘Invest in America’ tour at the company’s Durham, N.C. headquarters. The President highlighted initiatives designed to boost American manufacturing, rebuild the nation’s infrastructure and strengthen supply chains. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper were also in attendance at the event.

Wolfspeed currently produces more than 60% of the world’s Silicon Carbide materials at its Durham, N.C. headquarters, but is engaged in a $6.5 billion capacity expansion effort to dramatically increase production. This includes the opening of the company’s 200mm Mohawk Valley device fab in April 2022, and the construction of The John Palmour Manufacturing Center for Silicon Carbide, a 445-acre Silicon Carbide materials facility in North Carolina, which will expand the company’s existing materials capacity by more than 10x. Phase one construction for the materials facility is anticipated to be completed in 2024. Last month, Wolfspeed also announced plans to build a highly-automated, cutting-edge 200mm wafer fabrication facility in Saarland, Germany.

Siemens & Daimler Truck Partner

Siemens Digital Industries Software and Daimler Truck AG announced a new collaboration to implement a state-of-the-art digital engineering platform built using the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of software and services. The new platform will enable Daimler Truck to explore a future of commercial vehicle innovation and the efficient product development and lifecycle management of trucks and buses and will be rolled out globally across Daimler Trucks’ engineering hubs, brands and business segments.

The new digital platform will expand Daimler Truck’s adoption of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio through the implementation of Teamcenter® software for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), extended with Bill of Materials (BOM) management as its future standard PLM solution. This environment brings together and integrates the Daimler Truck teams’ workflows, systems and their associated mechanical design, electrical design and simulation data. This expands upon Daimler Truck’s use of solutions from across the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, including NX™ software for product engineering.

Since its establishment as an independent entity, Daimler Truck has begun a digitalization initiative to migrate away from Daimler AG legacy systems with the strategic intent to lead sustainable transportation with intelligent IT innovations. To develop trucks and buses of the future, Daimler Truck is pursuing a clear technology strategy where, in a carbon-neutral future, vehicles will be powered by both electric battery and hydrogen-based drives. These vehicles are also likely to become more intelligent through increased digitalization enabling next-level service offerings, such as autonomous trucking.

Daimler Truck is taking a global platform approach, which means that the guiding principle of developing key components and vehicle platforms once and then scaling them globally across brands and markets is fundamental. To enable this, a cloud-based global collaboration and common digital engineering system platform is essential, so Daimler Truck chose Siemens as the technology and implementation provider to build this next-generation engineering digital environment.

VicOne Expands with DFI

mVicOne, an automotive cybersecurity solutions provider, announced it has expanded its partnership with DFI, a global provider of embedded motherboards and industrial computers. This strategic alliance delivers enhanced industry-leading automotive cybersecurity software solutions and services for the rapidly growing electric vehicles and connected transportation market.

Various types of vehicles, traffic signals and infrastructure are constantly sharing large amounts of data through the internet. Together, VicOne and DFI are providing advanced embedded cybersecurity solutions for various applications to lay the foundation of fully interconnected transportation with smart cities environments. Their collaboration addresses the need to incorporate information security into transportation tools, fleet management and smart poles at the design stage.

It highlighted VicOne’s vehicle network security solution, which utilizes remote control of abnormal data signals and real-time warnings to help car manufacturers, fleet operators, and system suppliers establish a more powerful vision of information security defense, and prevent new types of over-the-air hacker invasions.
