Level-4 Self-Driving from Magna

Within it all, there is one automotive tech supplier with deep systems knowledge across the entire automobile: Magna. Magna will demonstrate its full capabilities and autonomous drive platform technologies:

  • 360-Degree Capabilities Demonstrator
This vehicle reflects Magna’s complete capabilities. It is, quite literally, a 360-degree view of Magna’s product, process and materials expertise. Guests can learn more about the capabilities shown and look into the future of the technology with an interactive display wall.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Simulator
Take a virtual ride through time and see the impact of various ADAS technologies and how they may change with the future of mobility.
  • MAX4 Demonstrator
Experience a dynamic demonstration of Magna’s scalable autonomous driving platform, which makes Level 4 autonomy possible.

Magna’s expertise across multiple product areas allows the company to develop technologies and systems that it believes no other supplier can develop on its own. The company also supports its customers as one of few suppliers that contract manufactures cars, including the BMW 5 Series, the Jaguar I-Pace and E-Pace, and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Magna will demo MAX4 at IAA. MAX4 combines cameras, RADAR, LiDAR and ultrasonic sensors with a compute platform that are designed for easy integration with any automakers’ existing and future platforms—including hybrid and electric vehicles. Additionally, Magna’s compute platform, scalable for high-volume production, is flexible, upgradeable and fully functional with a fraction of power requirements as compared to alternative solutions.

Magna has leveraged its full-vehicle expertise in its design of MAX4 to overcome traditional obstacles in the development and production of an autonomous driving platform.

Crucially, integration of MAX4 retains an automaker’s existing design and styling freedom for their vehicle, including not taking up cargo space in the rear of the vehicle and personal space in the main compartment.

One of the targets for Magna was to simplify the way drivers engage with autonomous driving systems including the option of an intuitive and familiar cruise-control-like user interface that is controlled through the press of a button. A lighted display indicates the vehicle is in autonomous mode, and drivers can disengage that mode via brake pedal or an emergency button.

Level 4 automation according to SAE International includes vehicles that can perform all safety-critical functions for the duration of a trip in a specified operational design domain with no input from a driver, save for destination or navigation input.

MINI Personal Mobility in the City MINI Electric Concept

MINI is using the IAA Cars 2017 show in Frankfurt to showcase its take on future personal mobility in the city – in the form of the MINI Electric Concept. Designed for use in urban areas, this concept car offers a window into how pure-electric day-to-day mobility might look in the years ahead. And the MINI Electric Concept also brings the iconic design, city-dwelling heritage and customary go-kart feeling of the MINI brand into t

Urban mobility is ingrained into the MINI brand’s DNA; the city is its natural habitat. Indeed, this environment and the specific demands it places on a car provided the canvas from which the MINI design team brought the MINI Electric Concept to life.

It has been nearly ten years since MINI took a significant, pioneering step with the MINI E – and laid the foundations at the BMW Group for the development of electric mobility solutions to production readiness.

The British premium brand’s first series-production model with a plug-in hybrid drive system was presented in spring 2017 in the shape of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4. The new model variant enables electric and therefore locally emission-free mobility for the first time. The all-electric MINI Electric Concept represents a seamless continuation of this bloodline. In the future, all electrified products from the MINI brand will be grouped together under the “MINI Electric” banner.

BMW Goes Electric

The new products unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt show highlight the status of BMW as a manufacturer of vehicles that transmit unrivalled levels of emotional appeal with their inspirational design, trailblazing innovations and the driving pleasure for which the brand is renowned. BMW is also showcasing the latest technological developments for the future of personal mobility, in which powertrain electrification, comprehensive digitalisation and other advances in the field of automated driving will play a particularly important role.

New products and features from all the brands will be presented under the slogan “This is tomorrow. Now. Die Zukunft ist jetzt”.

Both the BMW Concept 8 Series and the BMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre are testimony to BMW’s expanded presence in the luxury segment. Other facets of driving pleasure are demonstrated at the 2017 Frankfurt show by the BMW Concept Z4, the new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo and the new BMW X3 respectively – including exhilarating open-air fun, elegance and long-distance comfort, not to mention multi-faceted sportiness. The know-how gleaned from competing in motor sport is a traditional component of the BMW brand’s DNA, and it endows the new BMW M8 GTE with ideal credentials for endurance racing. The new BMW M5, meanwhile, transfers these high-performance genes from track to road to stunning effect. The new edition of the BMW i3, which is making its debut appearance at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show together with the new and even sportier BMW i3s, illustrates just how closely the company associates driving pleasure with sustainability.

BMW Motorrad is also placing the spotlight on the intensely emotional and sustainable sides of mobility in Frankfurt. The exclusive BMW HP4 RACE for track use and the BMW Motorrad Concept Link, boasting an all-electric drive system and state-of-the-art connectivity technology, are joined by numerous other pioneering ideas for urban mobility in tomorrow’s world.
