Following GM’s lead, Jaguar Land Rover cars with InControl Wi-Fi can subscribe to a prepaid unlimited data plan for $20 per month In America. The service is available as a standard feature and as an option on select Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles
When there is a data plan, users of InControl Wi-Fi, drivers and passengers can use Wi-Fi hotspots for up to eight devices for fast access to the internet.
The vehicles have a special antenna that is better than a cell phones antenna. The antenna is in the same area as the AM/FM radio antenna. Access to the internet is delivered via a link which connects the vehicle to AT&T’s cellular network. The service requires a mobile SIM card, provided by AT&T, for the vehicle’s SIM card reader.
InControl Wi-Fi is currently available as a standard feature and as an option on select Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles including the Jaguar XE, XF, XJ, and F-PACE, and Land Rover vehicles including the Discovery and Discovery Sport, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover Evoque models.
There is some fine print from AT&T & JLR:
The cost is $20 plus applicable taxes and fees. Prepaid session based data plan provides access to AT&T wireless data services for your equipped vehicle for 30 days. Eligible vehicle data plan and SIM card required. Auto-renewal: Plans automatically renew every 30 days unless cancelled.
Coverage and service not available everywhere.
Do not use Jaguar InControl features under conditions that will affect your safety or the safety of others. Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control. The Wi-Fi hotspot is intended for passenger use only. InControl features may require an additional subscription with separate terms and conditions.
