Tesla Cloud Data to be Processed with Open Source Software
Tesla’s CIO Jay Vijayan said at the Gartner Symposium in Barcelona said that Tesla will use Hadoop clusters when it data increases to learn more about its customers for making future decisions. Apache Hadoop is an open source software framework for distributed storage and distributed processing.
Vijayan also gave insight on how data is currently collected on Tesla cars. The cars do not communicate with the network every minute for efficiency. The cars do alert Tesla of malfunctions to enable the service teams to take action. He noted that because Tesla cars are already connected it will be “significantly faster to develop self driving features” than other companies.
Telsa S in Europe Price Increase
In a recent Tesla shareholder call, Elon Musk said that due to the weak Euro, Tesla will probably increase the price of the Tesla S in Europe.
Models & Colors Dropped
To increase profits Tesla has stopped offering some models and packages. The P85 and P85+ performance versions with rear-wheel-drive will no longer be sold instead all wheel drive options are offered. The Telsa Model S 60D version was cut along with the brown and green colors. The Tesla X has been delayed.
New Connections in Future?
Tesla cars connected to the Internet in the U.S. via AT&T HSPA+ which is free for four years and in the U.K. via Telefonica and affiliates. Tesla’s CEO may offer new Internet options in the future. The idea is to provide Internet service via satellites in space.
SpaceX is still in the early stages of developing advanced micro-satellites operating in large formations. Announcement in 2 to 3 months.

Previous reports noted that Musk was working with working with Greg Wyler, founder of d WorldVu Satellites (L5) to deliver fast Internet service using a constellation of small satellites. The connections are described as unfettered and at a very low cost.
Mmmn maybe the statellites will provide the larger pipe of Internet access needed for autonomous Tesla vehicles….
